First of all I would like to clarify that I was born in an orthodox Brahmin family one of the biggest things which we were told was that 'cow is our mother' and this statement always troubled me as why would anyone call an animal who eats shit as our mother so I did my piece of research and now am in a position to provide you with my work.
There is a view in our society that cow is our mother and the cows our holy but the modern day Hinduism is actually a derivative of Sanatan dharma but with modifications which were necessary because there were new religions comming up which gave sanatan dharma a stiff competition and because of this the sanatan dharma many of its followers and yes i am talking about Islam,Christianity and Buddhism they were new and more flexible these religions were actually derivatives of sanatan dharma with modernization the evidence is that during the time of Mahabharata the modern day Afghanistan is described as a Hindu state of GANDHAR and there are many evidences that Shukracharya( guru of raksasha community) was a citizen of Egypt which follow Islam and are epicenters of this religion. Apart from this this there are a lot of similarities between Krishna and Hercules even the name Hercules is a derivative of Hari. thus it was a period when a lot of transition between religions were taking place and sanatan dharma was losing its grip.
Then a person who is today known of adi guru shankracharya was born he was born in a Hindu family and he saw the decline of sanatan dharma and as he was a practitioner of it he felt a need of modernizing Hinduism and thought of some steps to bring it back he organised some of his followers and took certain steps to bring the sanatan dharma back into life and found one of the most prominent way was by creating a policy which is against all religions spreading at that time. He found that one of the most easy way to do so is by banning a thing which is allowed at that time which will prevent more conversions and what would be better than banning beef which a majorly allowed in all western religions like Islam and Christianity and so he did ban beef and one the easiest way to do so was to proclaim cows as holy and giving them a status equivalent to mothers.
This logic must be seeming a lot false but can be justified because even during its decline the so called dallits were living outside the village area and were rarely (almost never talked with) thus this information did not reach the dalits and they still eat beef in most of the states there is special class of dalits which still eat mouse and are known as mushars.
Now you must be thinking how can I justify that people ate cows in Snatan dharma? The answer is quite simple, there are evidences of cows fossil in earthen pots and there is not a single sentence saying anything regarding ban on eating of cows in vedas. now you must now be very angry as you have heard something but my dear friend vedas are like indian constitution the statements are quite simple but there interpretations are different so nothing can be said regarding it but in vedas the guests are referred to as araghy meaning on whose arrival cows are slaughtered.
Thus I would like to conclude by saying that yes cows are not banned in our religion and this violence in name cows is actually very harmful for national integrity and these are all my views and are not meant to hurt religious sentiments.
